Abstract

Bariatric surgery is the most effective but least utilized procedure for the management of severe obesity and its associated complications. However, several medical and surgical complications may arise following bariatric surgery. The management is multidisciplinary and Endocrinologists are the primary physicians for the management of medical complications. Apart from the nutritional deficiencies, patients’ metabolic complications may persist, and they may regain weight. Besides patients are at increased risk for the development of cholelithiasis, nephrolithiasis, and bone loss. At last, surgery-related complications like dumping syndrome and hypoglycemia can be managed by medical treatment. A life-long follow-up and continuous support are required for the optimum outcome of patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
